  • Farringdon palliative care service for Lambeth Council

Mears care branch at Farringdon provides palliative care support for Lambeth with home care services for referrals from three major hospitals, Guy's, King's College and St Thomas's as well as two local hospices which come under the PCT.
The palliative care team rarely turns down a referral and provide a 24 hour service ensuring that care needs are covered, even at very short notice, so a terminally ill person can return home without delay.
Providing end of life care is not the same as domiciliary care, care workers are taught enhanced emotional and practical skills and they help and support family members as well as their service user. Palliative requires a high level of emotional maturity and all care workers are given specific, in-depth training in end of life care as well as completing Mears domiciliary care training course.
The Lambeth contract was the first palliative care contract to be awarded in the Group and the team has an excellent reputation. Clients are referred from other local contracts, such as Islington and Southwark, because of their high standard of service, flexibility and reliability.

 CARE PROVIDERS
There are many different types of care available within the market, offered from a broad spectrum of providers ranging from small local companies, through to larger national companies such as Mears.

The cost of care varies from provider to provider, and will depend on the type of care services you require, how often you need the care and when it is delivered. You may be entitled to free domiciliary care if you meet your local authority's eligibility criteria. We can advise you on this.

PERSONALISATION
Personalisation is an exciting initiative that allows people to choose their own care provider, and to manage the relationship directly including payment. If you are eligible for funded care you can opt to take a Direct Payment and will then be able to select your care provider. Another option is to have an Individual Budget, where you can choose the care provider but the finances are managed by the local authority.

 PAYING FOR YOUR OWN CARE
Many people pay for their own care, and it is important that you select a care provider with the best skills and experience. Mears is the U.K.'s largest dedicated domiciliary care provider delivering high quality, affordable care to the very highest standards through its local operations.

Please contact your nearest branch for a confidential, no obligation care assessment.

NHS CONTINUING CARE AND NHS FUNDED NURSING CARE
You may be eligible for NHS funded health and personal care, known as Continuing Care. If you are not eligible for Continuing Care, then you may be entitled to NHS funded Nursing Care. We can advise you on the how to apply for funding.

 MAKING DECISIONS FOR OTHERS
Choosing care and working how best to fund it can be very complicated, and older people can sometimes find this difficult. A Lasting Power of Attorney/Continuing Power of Attorney (Scotland) can help people deal with property and financial affairs or their health and care matters. We can direct you to professional advisers who are authorised to advise you and your family about setting up a Power of Attorney.
